Nanosensor Liquid Biopsy Detects and Classifies Brain Tumors — Nature Nanotechnology
Nine Diagnostics co-founders Daniel A. Heller, PhD, and Mijin Kim, PhD, co-authored a cover article in Nature Nanotechnology (February 2026) demonstrating 98% accuracy in brain tumor detection and 71% accuracy in tumor type identification across 739 patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Northwestern University, and NYU. The study established the first multi-site clinical validation of quantum-defect-modified SWCNT arrays for cancer liquid biopsy, using a machine perception approach that detects tumors indirectly through the body’s systemic molecular response rather than requiring tumor material to cross the blood-brain barrier.
